There’s a reason “Old MacDonald” is one of the most beloved song of the toddler years: little kids love animals. At Paws Discovery Farm, you will cross paths with over 80 different kinds of animals. From feathers to scales, we have it all! For hands-on animal education, bring your family to PAWS DISCOVERY FARM!

Established in 1979 during the renovation of the Darnell Family Farmstead, Paws Discovery Farm provides a unique learning experience for adults and children. Visitors can explore nature trails, enjoy award winning gardens, and learn about live animals. Paws Discovery Farm features indoor and outdoor adventure opportunities. Visitors can hike the nature trail, visit the barnyard animals, explore the play structures and test imaginations in our hands-on, minds-on Discovery Barn. There are spacious picnic areas, play structures, indoor exhibits, and even an enchanting butterfly garden! The farm is home to pigs, tortoises, hedgehogs, and other small woodland and farm animals that can be seen up close. Paws Discovery Farm also provides a loving home to many animal exhibits, outdoor play areas and a petting zoo. Families are encouraged to interact with live animal shows and encounters with our very own Discovery Farm Theatre Players.

  • Dress for success. Comfy walking shoes are a must for you and your child. The farm can get muddy so boots are the best! Since Paws Discovery Farm has both indoor and outdoor areas, not to mention all the galleries, make sure to wipe those feet.

  • Bring a stroller. Even the hardiest walker can get tuckered out from all the terrain you'll cover. Not all areas are accessible on wheels. Be prepared to park your stroller and take a hike! Literally!

  • Read and sing all about it. All animal lovers will enjoy their farm visit even more if they know a bit about what and who they’ll encounter. Look at books highlighting the creatures that live on the farm. Watch a child-friendly video about animals, and of course, sing songs about animals and the noises they make.

  • Check us out on social media to get super excited!

  • Paws is an active place for families to make memories. We expect children to be accompanied by an adult at all times.

  • Use your senses. Encourage your child to activate all their senses. As they cuddle the lamb, ask how it's coat feels. How does the alpaca smell? What about those chickens? Are they quiet or loud? And how about that swans beak? These simple questions engage kids at the farm and help your child learn while they are having fun.

  • Our animals are so happy and healthy and we want to keep them that way. Please refrain from feeding the animals people food. Be sure to explain and enforce that these creatures eat only special animal food. If they are eager to feed our animals, you can buy some feed from the vending machines at the petting zoo on the farm. Be sure to use your hand sanitizer or head to a sink soon after the feeding frenzy.

  • Walk the walk, talk the talk. Kids love to imitate, so a trip to the farm is the perfect time to practice their mimicry skills. Challenge your child to oink like an pig or walk like an alpaca. Once you’re home, do your best animal imitations and try to name that farm friend.

  • Concessions and snacks are available for purchase, but you are always welcome to pack a lunch and eat it at the many seating areas throughout the farm. Remember to clean up and dispose of all your trash. Ask us about local food establishments.

  • Bathrooms located indoors and outdoors along the trail.

  • Ticket is valid all day - come and go all day long.

  • Make memories, snap some photos, and share your visit with us.
